Boldyn to build private 4G and 5G network at Ontario airport
The California airport will start with perimeter security and plans to extend connectivity to cameras. The network has not been presented as operational yet.
Ontario International Airport in California selected Boldyn Networks to design, build and operate a private 4G and 5G wireless network, the company announced on September 24. Its first use will support physical security and perimeter intrusion detection. This is a supplier selection and deployment plan, not evidence that a completed network is already available throughout the airport. [1] [2]
A private network uses connectivity resources dedicated to an organization and managed around its needs rather than relying only on public mobile service. Boldyn describes a segmented architecture, dedicated spectrum, computing on the airport premises and centralized management. Local computing can process data close to where it is generated, but the company has not published measurements demonstrating a specific latency reduction or coverage improvement. [1] [2]
The airport intends to expand the network later to broader camera coverage. According to the airport authority quoted by Boldyn, the site covers more than 1,700 acres and serves over seven million passengers annually. That scale helps explain the interest in managing security communications across a large facility. It does not establish how many devices the first phase will connect or which areas will have service at launch. [1] [2]
Boldyn says its network and security operations centers will supervise the installation around the clock. That is a service commitment whose effectiveness can only be assessed after deployment. The parties did not disclose the contract value, an activation date or performance targets required of the supplier. For the telecom sector, the deal illustrates how an airport can become a customer for dedicated mobile infrastructure; the practical outcome depends on construction and integration with existing security systems.
