Telefónica announced its own platform on October 14 for water utilities and local authorities to manage connected meters. According to the company, users will be able to view readings and histories, monitor device status and receive alerts for incidents or unusual consumption. Europa Press reported the launch based on the corporate announcement. [1][2]

The tool is designed to support meters from different manufacturers and integrates with Kite, Telefónica’s IoT connectivity platform. The company says it can bring devices and their communications into one view, generate reports and remotely change some parameters, such as transmission frequency or requests for new readings. This describes offered functions; it does not establish that a customer has already installed the new product. [1][2]

Telefónica lists early leak detection, missing readings and consumption deviations as possible uses. The announcement did not disclose prices, customer numbers, deployments or verified water savings. Those figures will be needed to assess adoption and real-world effects. The photograph shows Telefónica’s Madrid campus in 2012: it is an archive image and does not depict the platform or a metering project. [1]
