Televisa and Fintech agree to buy AT&T Mexico for $2 billion

Each partner will hold 50% of the buying consortium. The sale of Mexico’s second-largest mobile operator still needs approvals and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027.

Grupo Televisa and Fintech Holdings have agreed to acquire AT&T Mexico for $2 billion in cash at closing, subject to adjustments and additional contractual benefits, according to AT&T. Each partner will own 50% of the buying consortium. The agreement was announced on October 13; the acquisition has not closed. The companies expect completion in the first quarter of 2027, subject to applicable regulatory approvals in Mexico. [1][2]

The transaction would transfer ownership of the country’s second-largest mobile operator. Televisa said AT&T Mexico had approximately 24.7 million mobile subscribers at the end of 2025 and reported consolidated revenue of 85.4 billion pesos for that year. The subscriber figure refers to that date, not to an October 2026 measurement. Televisa already operates fixed broadband and a mobile brand. El Economista described the agreed acquisition as a possible expansion of its position across fixed and mobile connectivity, if approved and completed. [1][2]

AT&T presents the sale as part of a shift in investment toward U.S. fiber and wireless networks. It says the announcement does not currently affect service for its U.S. customers, including those traveling to Mexico. No changes to the Mexican operation’s brand, prices or network resulting from the agreement have been announced. Regulatory review is the next verifiable milestone; until closing, AT&T Mexico remains under its current ownership.
