AT&T and NBA prepare new network linking arenas and media production

The fourth-generation HSAN installation is due to start in the 2026-27 season. A broader launch is planned for July 2027; the upgrade is not yet complete.

AT&T, the NBA and the WNBA announced the fourth generation of the High-Speed Arena Network (HSAN) on October 19. The system carries video, replays, statistics and other data between arenas, production facilities and media partners. This project expands an existing network; the announcement does not mean the new version is installed in every venue. [1][2]

In an interview with CNET, the NBA’s technology executive said installation will start during the 2026-27 season, with the upgraded network scheduled to launch in July 2027. The plan covers all 30 venues where the NBA operates, beginning with six arenas. The league expects four times the bandwidth of the current infrastructure. These are rollout plans and targets, not already measured operational results. [2]

AT&T says its wider network, including more than 68,000 miles of fiber and infrastructure, will support HSAN. That mileage does not describe a network dedicated exclusively to the NBA. The company expects the upgraded platform to carry more than 118 concurrent streams per game during the 2027-28 season. The parties also extended their commercial partnership.
