Telecall and Parallel Wireless plan an Open RAN 5G network in Colombia
The companies announced a planned rollout using Telecall’s 3.5 GHz licence, with fixed wireless broadband among its aims. They gave no launch date or count of live sites.
Telecall Colombia and Parallel Wireless announced on October 21 a plan to accelerate deployment of a 5G network using Open RAN and artificial intelligence in Colombia. The vendor says the project will span thousands of sites, combining coverage where fibre is scarce with more capacity in high-demand areas. That scale is a stated target: the companies did not specify how many sites are installed or provide a service launch timetable. [1][2]
The network will use Telecall’s nationwide 3.5 GHz licence. According to the companies, one planned use is fixed wireless broadband for homes and businesses, which connects a location by radio without laying fibre to it. Telecall’s chief executive described an ambition to build a new mobile network, but that statement does not establish that a commercial mobile 5G offer is already available. [1][2]
Parallel Wireless plans to supply its GreenRAN platform and Unity AI system to adapt the network to traffic and radio conditions. Capacity and efficiency gains are vendor objectives; it published no measurements from the Colombian deployment. Developing Telecoms separately covered the announcement and placed the licence in Colombia’s 2023 spectrum auction.
