Movistar begins operating as Tigo in Colombia as the two brands combine

The brand transition begins in October. Tigo says existing contracts and services continue, while it plans to invest 8.5 trillion Colombian pesos over four years.

Colombia Telecomunicaciones, which operated under the Movistar brand, began presenting itself as Tigo on October 14. This is the commercial phase of an integration already carried out: Millicom took operational control in February 2026 and completed its purchase of the state-owned stake in April, according to the CRC. The new branding is not an acquisition announced this week. [1][2][4]

Tigo tells customers that the transition will be gradual. Colombia Telecomunicaciones remains the provider under existing Movistar contracts, now using the Tigo brand. The operator says current plans retain their terms and that it will notify customers of any change. Its customer page says the Tigo brand will appear on bills from October, although some billing email addresses will keep the former domain. [1]

The company announced a plan to invest 8.5 trillion Colombian pesos over four years, focused on mobile networks, 5G, fiber and systems. This is a company projection, not money already spent. The CRC says the integration changed market competition and continues preventive oversight of mobile services.
