Elisa tests voice, data and video analytics on one AI-RAN platform in Helsinki

The live-network trial combined radio functions with an AI application. Elisa aims to validate commercial benefits in 2027; no customer improvement at scale has been shown.

Elisa said on October 21 that it ran an AI-RAN trial on its 5G Advanced network in Helsinki. According to the operator, one computing platform carried voice, mobile data and AI-based video analytics at the same time. This was a field test on a live network, not an AI-RAN service generally available to customers. [1][3]

The setup used Nokia’s solution and NVIDIA Aerial RAN Computer. AI-RAN shares computing resources between radio-access functions and artificial intelligence applications; in this trial, video analytics was the additional AI workload. Nokia also describes Elisa’s activity as a trial among tests involving several operators. The companies did not publish a measured coverage, capacity or user-experience improvement attributable to this configuration. [1][2]

Elisa says it is preparing to validate benefits on a commercial network in 2027. That future objective is neither an approved rollout nor a result already achieved. TelecomLead covered the announcement from a separate newsroom, but its Elisa details come from the companies. The Finnish test is separate from the AI-RAN call T-Mobile announced in Bellevue. The photograph shows Elisa’s Helsinki headquarters in 2022, not the trial site. [1][3]
